Guidance/initiatives released to support home learning:
The Secretary of State announced a major new package to support online learning:
- Free laptops to help vulnerable and disadvantaged young people
- Major telecommunications providers will temporarily exempt educational sites from data charges
- BBC Bitesize TV lessons
- Oak National Academy
Disadvantaged children across England will receive laptops and tablets as part of a push to make remote education accessible for pupils staying at home during the coronavirus outbreak. It is not clear whether primary school children will qualify for this as it seems to focus on secondary age, however the criteria does say: Young people and families eligible for devices must not already have access to one, and must be in one of the following groups:
- Children with a social worker
- Care leavers
- Disadvantaged children in year 10, ahead of GCSEs next year

Lastly, The DfE has published clarifications to the existing guidance on attendance, specifically for the following groups:
- Children and young people who have a social work
- Children and young people with an education, health and care (EHC) plan
- Children and young people who are otherwise vulnerable
HMN have launched a new early intervention and prevention helpline for children and young people aged 10-17 in Herts. The helpline will provide a safe , non-judgemental space to talk to a Young People Advisor or Mentor who will provide emotional support, advice and information, signposting and discuss coping strategies. For parents of children that will remain at home during this time please see our home learning packs.
The most recent government advice states, if one person in your household has a new, persistent cough or high temperature, your whole household needs to self isolate for 14 days.
If your child is currently self-isolating and they have siblings in school, the siblings will also need to self-isolate for 14 days, even if they have no symptoms.
It is very important that you do not send your child into school if they have symptoms or if anyone in your household has symptoms. Further guidance can be found here.
