Parent Voice

Welcome to our newly formed Parent Voice group for parents/carers of Beechfield School pupils, which was launched in July 2019.

Parent Councils have an important role to play in school improvement by ensuring that the parental perspective is represented and taken into account. Therefore, new members are always welcome. It is a great opportunity to have a voice within the school in an informal forum to discuss issues and make suggestions about areas that are important to you. It is an important link between parents and the school and allows parents to contribute to school life and the wellbeing of our children. Some areas that may be covered are home school communication, behaviour, and uniform.

As part of our school ethos of be kind, work hard and love learning we have a strong focus on the 6 principles of nurture which underpin everything we do in the school.

The 6 principles of nurture are:

  • All behaviour is a form of communication
  • The importance of nurture for development of wellbeing
  • The importance of transition in children’s lives
  • The classroom offers a safe base
  • Language is a vital means of communication
  • The importance of transition in children’s lives

Key findings of Parent Council UK

  • Parental involvement has a significant effect on pupil achievement throughout the years of schooling
  • Educational failure is increased by lack of parental interest in schooling
  • Engaging hard to reach parents has a disproportionately positive effect on student learning and student achievement
  • A father’s interest in a child’s schooling is strongly linked to better educational outcomes for the child
  • In a recent study in England 72% of parents said that they wanted more involvement

We aim to meet each half-term in school time during our coffee mornings on a Wednesday between 9am and 10am in the Beechfield Bungalow.

Dates for the meetings this academic year will be as follows:

20th October 2021

8th December 2021

2nd February 2022

23rd March 2022

11th May 2022

6th July 2022

If you would like to be part of the Parent Voice or would like to make any comments or agenda suggestions, please contact our Pastoral Leader, Alison Hayward or speak to a Parent Voice member at school.  Our school motto of Be Kind, Work Hard, Love Learning very much relates to our parents as well as well as staff and pupils alike. We would like the Parent Voice to be a good representation of our parents, so you will be very welcome.
