Attendance

Attendance is important

From September 2020, the government guidance is clear that attendance at school is mandatory.

If your child misses a lot of school, they will find the work harder, not feel part of the class group, find it harder to make and keep friendships, forget what they have learnt.

If your child is regularly late for school, they will find it harder to settle into the school day, miss important notices, disrupt the other children in their class.

If your child has good attendance at school, they may receive an attendance award, find it easier to learn, have closer friends, feel happier about school.

Late Arrival at School

When your child arrives late at school, he/she misses the teacher’s instructions and the induction to the lesson. Your child may also feel embarrassed at having to enter the classroom late. The timings of our school day are:

8.30am - ALL classroom doors are open

8.35am - Reception and Year 1- Registration - Doors close and learning begins

8.40am - Years 2 - 6 - Registration - Doors close and learning begins

Please help your child to be punctual. Should your child arrive after 8.40am they will need to be signed in at the school office.

Application for leave of absence

Application for leave of absence will not be authorised during term time. Unauthorised absence in excess of 10 sessions (each day is equal to 2 sessions) will be subject to a fixed penalty of £160.00 per parent, per child within 28 days - reduced to £80 per parent if paid within 21 days to be paid to Hertfodshire County Council.  This is in line with DfE attendance guidance.

Application for leave

Please contact the school office to receive an Application for Leave of Absence form via email.

What is the procedure if my child is sick?

If your child becomes unwell, please inform the school office of their absence before 9.30am on that day. You can do this by calling 01923 221269.
